Slings and load-handling devices are subjected to significant stresses during each use, often in challenging environments. What Are Slings?<\/h2>

Slings create a connection between the lifting device and the load or between the lifting device and a load-handling device. Slings are, therefore, tools that are not directly part of the hoist but are essential for enabling the transportation of loads. The most common slings include ropes, chains, lifting straps, and round slings. To ensure safety in your company, it is important not only to consider the load-bearing capacity of the slings but also to regularly inspect them for mechanical, chemical, and thermal damage and to be aware of the criteria for discard age. This is the only way to fulfill your obligation to inspect slings properly.<\/p>

What Are Load-Handling Devices?<\/h2>

Load-handling devices establish the connection between the load and the lifting equipment and are used for the transport or handling of loads. There are various types of load-handling devices, including clamps, spreader beams, C-hooks, and vacuum lifters. Additionally, lifting lugs, wire rope slings, and load-lifting magnets are considered load-handling devices. Often, slings are used as intermediaries during transport, which is why slings and their components are also classified as load-handling devices.<\/p>

Load-handling devices fall under the directive 2006\/42\/EC, which states that these tools are components that are not part of the lifting mechanism. However, the following items are not recognized as load-handling devices: concrete buckets, lifting nets, or bulk containers. Special inspections, conducted by qualified personnel, are necessary to monitor for mechanical damage and to assess the load-bearing capacity of these devices.
