UVV Inspection: Gates, Doors & Windows According to DIN & ASR

Power-operated windows, gates, and doors are commonly found in production and storage halls, as well as in the entrance areas of public buildings. As building products, they are subject not only to specific technical requirements but also to regular inspection obligations. Have the UVV inspection of gates, doors, and windows professionally conducted by SNI-Nord, and fulfill your inspection duty.

What are power-operated windows, doors, and gates?

By definition, these are movable room closures whose wings can be moved automatically with the help of a motor.

Which standards and laws regulate the inspection?

The safety requirements for power-operated windows, doors, and gates are regulated by DIN 18650 and ASR A1.7 (formerly BGR 232). These standards contain regulations regarding the setup of the system, as well as its inspection, testing, labeling, and commissioning. Automatic gate systems, door systems, and power-operated windows must be inspected at regular intervals according to these regulations—always by a qualified expert.

Please note that, in addition to inspection, regular maintenance of power-operated doors and gates according to the manufacturer’s specifications is also necessary. The maintenance intervals depend on the manufacturer’s requirements.

When must power-operated windows, doors, and gates be inspected?

Operators of automatic door and gate systems must have safety inspections carried out multiple times. Regular inspections are intended to ensure that the safety of employees or visitors is not compromised at any time and that automatic door systems, gates, and windows function properly. Immediately after installation and before the first operation, a qualified person must conduct the first mandatory inspection. It is therefore required to have power-operated doors, gates, or windows inspected for the first time before they are put into operation.

Additional mandatory inspections must be carried out at least once a year under normal use and environmental conditions. The inspection interval may be shortened in the case of special strains or after defects. The inspection results must be documented and retained accordingly.

Safety Analysis: Mandatory for Installers and Manufacturers

The installer or manufacturer of automatic gates and doors must have a safety analysis conducted by a qualified person before commissioning. This analysis aims to avoid all potential risks associated with the automatic gate or door. The safety analysis should eliminate or minimize possible hazards and highlight any residual risks. A thorough inspection ensures compliance with the guidelines for hold-open systems.

Who is authorized to inspect power-operated windows, doors, and gates?

Inspections may only be carried out by qualified experts who can assess the functionality of the safety devices and verify them using appropriate measuring technology.
